Adventure awaits in your own backyard!

Imagine having a project you can do with a child of any age, and help the environment at the same time

Are you home with kids all day and find that if the activities you plan for them aren’t interesting enough, they’ll make their own “entertainment” (like drawing on the dog with permanent marker)?

Are things you think are fun about as entertaining to your kids as cleaning the toilet with a toothbrush?

Do you wish you had a great way to engage kids that doesn’t involve their faces being “glued” to a screen?

It can feel like the life is being sucked out of you when you are trying to find an activity for kids that is fun, gets them off the couch, and makes everyone happy.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Get ready to rid your life of groans, complaints, and endless eye rolls (at least for a while)!

Are you asking yourself, “How do I know if this is right for me?”

This is right for you if…

  • you’re looking for something fun and entertaining to do with your kids
  • you love nature and being outside
  • you have an interest in nature and want to do something to help pollinators thrive

This is not right for you if…

  • you don’t enjoy being outside and can’t stand the thought of getting dirt under your fingernails
  • you’d rather kill bugs than save them
  • you’re not into DIY projects

Q: It’s winter, why would I buy this now?

A: Winter is the best time to start planning a habitat/garden. Planning helps give you something to look forward to when the weather gets warmer and gives you a project to do with your kids. There is no better way to help you survive cabin fever!

Q: What is the additional investment?

A: Most things about growing a garden aren’t that expensive. The greatest cost will be plants and any garden art you don’t make yourself. Planting your own seeds in homemade pots or “greenhouses” will save a lot of money. The course is designed to make this as inexpensive as possible.

Q: What if my kids don’t like bugs?

A: Even though it is a habitat to attract pollinators, it doesn’t have to be all about bugs. You will learn a lot about plants and animals.

Q: Is this course good only for people who live in the United States?

A: No. Everything in the course can be applied outside of the U.S. There are resources available to help determine what plant hardiness zone you are in, no matter where you live.

Q. My kids are already in Middle School, isn’t it too late?

A: No! Planning a garden, garden art, and learning about pollinators is not just for little kids – it’s for everyone. It’s good for ages 1 day to 100 years!

Q: I have never gardened in my life and neither one of my thumbs is green. Can I still do this?

A: Of course! Willingness to learn is all you need. Planting and all other activities can be learned and most instructions are included on seed packets, or on the websites listed in the reference booklet.

Q: I live in an apartment in a big city, how will I be able to make a pollinator habitat?

A: You can contribute to helping pollinators by growing pollinator-friendly plants on your balcony. Every plant, even if it’s just one, can help.

Q: Um, what the heck is a ‘pollinator’?

A: A pollinator is anything that helps transfer pollen from one plant to another. A cat can even be considered a “pollinator” as it swishes it’s tail back and forth while walking through the jungles of your garden. For this course, we are mainly focusing on insects like butterflies, dragonflies, bees, and other insects.
